Project Backpack provides school supplies to those in need enrolled in the current fall semester at Elgin Community College (District 509) or school districts U-46, D300, D301, D303, or D20 or reside therein.

Eligibility Requirements

District Residency

You must be a student residing within Elgin Community College (District 509) boundaries to receive a backpack. Please search for your address on our District 509 map to ensure you are a district resident.

Residency within district boundaries is the only requirement.

Proof of Eligibility

Enrollment

If your children are enrolled in districts U-46, D300, D301, D303, or D20 for the 2026-2027 school year, please bring an ID and proof of enrollment for each eligible child.

Acceptable forms of proof include:

• School registration
• Class schedule
• Student record on Infinite Campus, PowerSchool, Home Access Center, Skyward, etc.
• Previous semester’s report card
• etc.

Residency

If your children are homeschooled, attend private school, or have some other alternative schooling situation, please bring an ID and proof of your residency within District 509 boundaries.

Acceptable forms of proof include:

• Lease or mortgage document
• Utility bills
• Bank statements
• Pay stub
• etc.
